Have you applied for SASSA’s Special Relief of Distress Grant, which we all call the R350 grant, but you were rejected? Here are possible reasons as to why your application was rejected and what to do about it.
So, you completed and submitted your application to get the R350 grant but then unfortunately, you were rejected.
Well, the main requirement for the grant is that you receive no other income, grants, UIF money or NSFAS. If you receive any of these, you would not have been accepted then.
Then, you might have been rejected and told that you are ‘IRP5 Registered’. This means that databases are picking you up as someone who pays tax which means you’re receiving an income.
If the reason you were rejected says that you’re receiving UIF and you’re not, this could be that the database is picking up old UIF payments or such.
It was however seen that these reasons were inaccurate and that applicants were not working or receiving UIF money. In this case, you should then appeal.
A R350 grant appeal is basically a second chance. You are asking SASSA to reconsider your application.
Appeals will close on 31 May 2021.
How To Send Your Appeal
- Go to the SRD Grant website
- Scroll down to ‘Application for reconsideration’
- Click on the yellow bar
- Fill in the required fields
If you’ve already lodged an appeal, you will then not need to send another or contact the SASSA office.
