Uganda Christian University (UCU) Fee Structure 2023 / 2024 Intake: The Authority of the Uganda Christian University (UCU) has released the amount payable as school fees for undergraduate, Certificate, and Diploma Programmes for the 2023 / 2024 academic session.

The following are the UCU Undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and their respective tuition fees in Ugandan Shilling (UGX):

1. Key Facts about the UCU Fees Structure
  1. There is NO adjustment in the Tuition Fees.
  2. Students studying Online will NOT pay Boarding Fees.
  3. Adjustments have been made for Students Studying Online, these are: I ) NO Med ical Fees will be paid .
  4. A reduction in the Development Fees.
  5.  A reduction in the Student Activity Fees.
2. Why am paying Library Fee yet am studying Online?

Our Library resources are two-fold . The traditional mode is the collection of hard copies of  books and reference materials .The second mode is the collection of e-resources. Each of these has a cost. For Students studying online, in as much as there is no physical study at the Library, Students will access Online services and the Library e·resources. Th e University has to subscribe to the majority of these Online materials and e·resources in order to avail them to our Students.

3. Why have you chosen to increase Fees amidst the Global Pandemic?

There has been NO increase in Fees. A Student will continue to pay the Tuition Fees that they have been paying. The University Council did resolve that Tuition Fees are set during the year of entry to the University and sh all remain the same during the period of  study for each Student.

4. What is Development Fee and why should we pay for it every Semester?

The entire infrastructure that we have on our Campuses is paid out of the Development Fee. Th is ranges from the Lecture rooms to Roads to Furniture. In some cases the construction is done in advance and UCU periodically pays off the Loan .The maintenance and repairs of our infrastructure is also paid out of  the Development Fee.


5. Do Online Students need to pay Medical Fees?

Online Students will not pay Medical Fees as they will be off-campus.

6. Why is the University charging us full Tuition yet we are going to study half Semester?

The next Semester is a full Semester where the Curriculum set for the Semester will be accomplished. This will require extra input from our Academic team to achieve that within the set timelines. UCU remains committed to offer quality education to each of our Students.

7. Does the announced Fees Structure apply to International Students?

Yes, the announced Fees Structure applies to all the Uganda Christian University Students, including our International


8. Now that Tuition is constant, why don’t we just report back to Campus?

The Government has only permitted Universities to open for Finalists as long as the SOPs are adhered to. UCU has to adhere to health and safety measures issued by the Government. UCU therefore, cannot have all her Students back on Campus which is why only a few Finalist programmes are reporting back to the Campus (as earlier notified) and the rest will study Online.

9. Why do I have to pay Students’ Activity Fees yet I will be studying Online?

The Student Activity Fee supports the Guild Operations and Activities Whereas the Students studying Online do not access all the Guild services, there are services that the Guild Government will have to carry out to better serve the Student Body. Hence, the reduction in the Student Activity fee for the Students who will be studying Online.

10. Why should I pay for Accommodation yet I am studying Online?

Students who are going to study Online will NOT pay for Accommodation.

11. Why has the University increased Boarding Fees?

The adjustment in the Boarding fees applies to the entering Students. The finalists who are reporting to Campus on 15111 October 2020 will pay the old Board ing Fees. The rest of the Students who are studying Online will not pay for any Boardi ng fees.

Uganda Christian University (UCU) Fee Policy (2018 – 2023)

  • The policy was approved after a thorough report presented by the special committee of the Guild representatives appointed by the Guild leadership whose work started on 4th June 2018.
  • The appointed Students Guild committee presented the following recommendations to Council on 6th July 2018. They have been quoted verbatim.
    • Instead of increasing fees by the tune of 49% and 91% as it were in the earlier Management proposal, there should be a uniform and moderate 15% increase in tuition fees across all programs effective 2018/19 for the next 5 years.  This, however, means that a student who joins the University at a given fee structure that has a 15% factored in, shall continue to pay similar fees until he completes the Course duration.
    • While the Visitation Committee recommended that Public Universities should charge a unit cost per program, our Committee has only considered a reasonable and moderate 15% to cater for annual inflation.  This was mainly considering our unique social-economic conditions as a country.
    • The increment of 15% should only apply to first-year students (effective 2018/19) going forward and not continuing students.
    • There should be a feedback framework where all matters/policies that affect students are discussed by student leaders beyond the two student representatives that sit on the Council and its Committees.
    • The Guild President and his Vice should be allowed more participation on committees of the Council that relate to student issues including quality assurance and student welfare committees.
    • The revenue accruing from the above proposal if approved and implemented should reflect a change in student services, especially in areas of student hygiene, Laboratory facilities, teaching facilities, Wi-Fi, health services, and customer care.
  • The University Council upon receipt of the recommendations from the Students Guild committee discussed and agreed as follows:
    • To increase fees on all undergraduate programs for first-year students by 15% beginning with the 2018/2019 academic year.
    • That the 15% free increment be successively continued for each cohort on the fees for the previous academic year over a five-year period.
    • That every cohort of students continues with the fees structure upon which they are admitted until they complete their programs.
    • There will be no fees increment on continuing students
    • Management sensitizes the student body on the new fee structure accordingly.

Management, therefore, wishes to inform all our students that we are ready and willing to meet the Guild leadership so as to address the complaints at hand, in line with the aforementioned recommendations.
